Google Pong
Trick
Search for a Google Pong trick and you will find plenty of pages promising one. The honest answer is more complicated, and it matters for anyone building a collection like our hidden Google games list. This guide separates what actually exists from what is just repeated online, and shows the closest real tricks.
Quick answer: There is no standing "play Pong" Easter egg in Google Search that we could verify. The closest official tricks were a Pong-like tennis game for Wimbledon in 2019 and the old Atari Breakout game in image search.
What you will see claimed online
Many pages say that searching a phrase like "play Pong" or "google ping pong" launches a hidden table tennis game. We could not find a reliable source confirming that, and the same pages often contradict each other or mix Pong up with Atari Breakout. If a search does not show a game, that is the most likely reason.
The real Pong-like tricks
| Trick | Year | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Wimbledon tennis mini-game | 2019 | Added to Wimbledon results; Google said it could reappear for other big tournaments. |
| Atari Breakout in Google Images | Older trick | Removed around 2020; still playable on fan recreations. |
| Fan-made Pong clones | Various | Not from Google, but easy to find in any browser. |
The Wimbledon tennis game
In July 2019 Google added a miniature tennis game to the results box for Wimbledon. You searched for Wimbledon, looked for a small tennis ball icon next to the Mixed Doubles option, and tapped it to start. On desktop you moved your character with the left and right arrow keys, and on mobile you dragged it. The characters changed between animals, a robot and an astronaut, with the Android mascot popping up as well.
Google said the game would stay available for other major tournaments with men's and women's brackets and mixed doubles, so it is worth checking when one is on. Treat it as seasonal rather than permanent. It is one of the more playful entries in our complete list of Google Easter eggs.
Atari Breakout, the one that really existed
Atari Breakout turned Google Image Search results into a wall of bricks you broke with a bouncing ball. Google removed it around 2020. Many of the Pong claims online are a muddle of this trick, since Breakout was Atari's follow-up to Pong and shares the paddle-and-ball idea.
Tips for finding playable tricks
- Check dates. If a guide does not say when a trick appeared, it may be out of date.
- Prefer tricks tied to events. Wimbledon-style games tend to appear around tournaments.
- Use fan archives for retired tricks. Sites that preserve Google Easter eggs keep Breakout alive.
- Try something else instead. The Google gravity and underwater tricks guide lists tricks that still change the page right now.
