AI Tool to Write a Resume for Freshers
(Free, Section by Section)
When you have no work experience, a blank resume feels impossible. The fix is to stop thinking "resume" and start thinking in five small boxes. AI can fill each box if you give it your real material. It cannot make up experience for you, and a recruiter will notice if it tries.
Gather your raw material first (15 minutes)
Write messy notes on these, in any order:
- Your course, college, year, marks if good
- Projects (class, personal, group), what you built, what tool you used, what it did
- Internships, volunteering, club roles, part-time work
- Skills you can really use, and how you learned them
- Certificates, competitions, anything with a date
No sentences needed. AI turns notes into lines. It can't turn nothing into something.
Box 1: The header
Name, phone, email, city, link to LinkedIn or portfolio if you have one. Use a normal email address. If you want a place to show projects, see our guide to AI tools for portfolio website generation.
Box 2: The two-line summary
Write a 2-line resume summary for a fresher.
Course: [..]. Target job: [..]. Strongest skills: [..]. One real project: [..].
Plain words. No "hardworking" or "passionate". Mention the target job. Under 35 words.
Box 3: Projects (the most important box)
This is where freshers win or lose. Each project needs three things: what you built, what you used, what happened.
Before (what most freshers write):
"Made a website for a project."
After (same project, better facts):
"Built a 5-page website for a local tailoring shop using HTML, CSS and JavaScript; added a WhatsApp order button; the owner now gets orders from it."
Prompt to get from before to after:
Rewrite these project notes as 2 resume bullet points each.
Start with a verb. Include what I used and what the result was.
If I did not give a result, write [ADD RESULT] instead of inventing one.
Notes: [paste]
A second example, for a non-tech fresher. Made up, to show the shape.
Before: "Was part of the college event committee."
After: "Handled registration for a 2-day college fest as part of a 6-member committee; used a shared spreadsheet to track 400 sign-ups and fixed duplicate entries before the event."
Same person, same event. The second version tells the reader what you did and how big it was. If you do not know the numbers, ask a friend or look at old messages. Do not guess.
Box 4: Skills
List only skills you could answer a question on in an interview. Group them: tools, languages, soft skills. Do not list "MS Office" if you can't make a table.
Box 5: Education and extras
Keep it short and in order: course, college, year. Add marks only if they help. Competitions and certificates go here, one line each.
Match the resume to one job
Do not send the same file to every job. Copy the job post into the chatbot and ask:
Here is a job post and my resume.
List the 5 skills or words the post repeats most.
Tell me which of them I can truthfully show from my resume, and which I cannot.
Suggest which 2 bullets I should move higher.
Do not add any skill I do not have. Do not rewrite my facts.
Job post: [paste]
Resume: [paste]
The "which I cannot" part is useful. It shows gaps, and you can decide whether to apply anyway or learn the skill first.
If the AI gives you this, do this
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| It adds a skill or tool you never used | Delete it. Re-prompt: "Use only my notes." |
| Bullets all start with "Responsible for" | Ask for strong, plain verbs: built, wrote, organised, fixed |
| It writes a 2-page resume | Ask: "Cut to one page. Keep projects, drop the rest first." |
| Summary says "hardworking and passionate" | Ask for a summary with your course, target job and one project |
| It invents a number | Ask for [ADD RESULT] instead, then fill in the truth or leave it out |
When NOT to use AI for this:
• To invent internships, certificates, marks or references. Never do this. Companies check.
• To copy a friend's resume with changed words. You will not be able to explain it in the interview.
• For the final read. Read every line aloud yourself before you send it.
Check before you send
| Check | Why |
|---|---|
| Every claim is true | You will be asked about it |
| One page | Recruiters skim |
| Same format for dates | Looks careful |
| File name is "YourName-Resume.pdf" | Easy to find |
| Read aloud once | Catches odd AI phrases |

Once the resume is ready, write your cover letter for a first job, then practice interview questions with AI. If you are unsure which AI tool to open first, our guide to choosing the right AI tool helps.
Real-world example: One project line I improved using this method went from: "Made a library management system in Python." to "Built a Python-based library management system tracking 500+ books, reducing manual check-out time by 40% for the college department." The second version immediately tells a recruiter the scale and impact of the work.
